Well, not exactly a box but it’s just about that easy. If you’re anything like me, the classic red rose is just so expected and boring around this time of year.

While browsing through the new e-glossy, appropriately called¬† High Gloss, I was thrilled to find a Valentine’s photo shoot that didn’t feature red roses but rather pink and orange. Fun, modern and not quite so stuffy. I was inspired by this photo from the magazine:

Want to create your own Valentine party decor? It’s easy and fairly affordable too!

First off, find some fun fabric with a pink or an orange design, or both if your heart desires. Throw it down as your tablecloth or just a runner. No need to buy an expensive table cloth for one day, if you want finished edges just pick up some iron on seam tape, it’s quick and cheap too.

Next up you’ll need vases. Look for three larger, low vases and three bud vases. If your table is longer look for five of each, rule of thumb in design is to always use odd numbers.¬† Don’t go to your local craft store and buy them, head to a thrift store for some cheap glassware in fun shapes and sizes. You can almost always find the perfect vase at your local thrift store. For this look, you’re looking for milk glass, a type of opaque, milky glass that was produced around here in the Depression era of the 1930 and 40’s. If you can’t find milk glass, grab some vases that have good lines and shape, some white glossy spray paint and a little extra time. Check out this tutorial from Ruffled to create your own milk glass.

Once you’re vases are done, head to your local florist or grocery store and pick up some pink and orange blooms. Roses, gerbera daisies and carnations are your best bet in these colors. Group them together in the vases and voila you’ve got your table set. Fill your lower vases with the majority of your blooms and the bud vases with one bud to keep the eye moving across the table.

If you’re looking for the rest of this lovely set up, similar soda fountain glasses can be found at Amazon.com, they’re only around $24 for a set of 12. The fun retro heart print straws can be found at Etsy from seller, fortandfield. The fun sodas, keep it local, grab some Izze Sparkling Juice when you pick up your flowers at the grocery store, the sparkling grapefruit tastes great and is the perfect color too.
